Tomas skips game to get extra hitting work

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- D-backs third baseman Yasmany Tomas stayed behind at Salt River Fields on Tuesday as his teammates took on the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium.

Arizona manager Chip Hale said Tomas was given the day to take extra hitting and work with hitting coach Turner Ward.

Tomas is expected to start at third base Wednesday night against the Rockies. He got his first game action in the outfield Monday, but did not have a ball hit to him.
