Freeman notches RBI as Braves tie Astros

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Houston second baseman Jose Altuve recorded a pair of hits and Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman delivered an RBI single as the Braves and Astros played to a 2-2 tie at Osceola County Stadium on Monday afternoon. The teams agreed to halt play after nine innings.

Altuve began his two-hit performance with a leadoff double that put him in position to score when Marwin Gonzalez and Colby Rasmus followed with consecutive groundouts. Braves starter Alex Wood encountered more trouble in the second inning, when he issued a two-out walk to L.J. Hoes and then allowed Gregorio Petit to lace a double to the left-field corner.

While Wood got through his final two innings of work without incurring any further damage, Astros starter Dallas Keuchel exited after allowing his only two runs in the third inning. John Buck started the top of the third with a home run. Eury Perez followed with the first of his two doubles and scored on Freeman's game-tying single.

Chad Qualls, Josh Fields and Tony Sipp all produced scoreless relief outings for the Astros. Former Houston reliever Jose Veras enhanced his bid for a spot in Atlanta's bullpen by tossing a scoreless fifth inning.

Up next: The Braves will send Shelby Miller to the mound when they travel to play the Red Sox in Fort Myers on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the game live on MLB.TV. Miller recorded just one out during his Grapefruit League season debut on March 7, but the right-hander bounced back as he limited the Yankees to one run over three innings on Thursday.
