Finnegan slated to get extra spring innings

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Royals are still weeks away from having to make a decision on rookie left-hander Brandon Finnegan.

But, starting next week, the club will begin an effort to stretch Finnegan out in games, just in case it decides it is best for him to start the season at Triple-A Omaha as a starter rather than as a bullpen member on the Royals' 25-man roster.

Manager Ned Yost reiterated on Sunday, "We don't know what he's going to do for us yet."

But Finnegan, who threw just one inning on Saturday, will throw again on Tuesday with the intent of him going three innings.

"That's up to him," Yost said. "If he keeps his pitch count down, yes, three innings."

Finnegan is slated to throw about 40-45 pitches.
