Norris reports no issue with back after flare-up

Webb, Janish among O's on mend

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Ryan Webb (left knee) threw at the Orioles' Ed Smith Stadium complex in Sarasota, Fla., on Friday and could return to game action next week. Webb reported to be feeling a lot better and is moving toward a full bullpen session, which could happen early next week and clear him to get back into games.

Infielder Paul Janish has been fully cleared to play and will probably get some at-bats this weekend in the Puerto Rico exhibition game on Saturday and in Sunday's "B" game. Manager Buck Showalter said Janish could serve as a designated hitter to catch up on at-bats and could also play the field a little bit.

Janish, who had bone chips removed from his right elbow last month, had been targeting some time around March 20 to make his spring debut, so Friday's news certainly is a good step.

Showalter also said starter Bud Norris was not on the medical sheet Friday, and the team isn't aware of any kind of physical issue. Norris mentioned after Thursday's start, however, that he had a back flare-up earlier.

"I really didn't feel that great after my last [start]," Norris said in Jupiter. "My back and stuff kind of flared up, but I felt good, really good now. I'm hoping the next [few] days progress well, and [I] get another side [session] in and be ready to go on -- I believe -- Tuesday."
