Wieters will not play in Friday's game against Blue Jays

JUPITER, Fla. -- Matt Wieters will not make Friday's trip to Dunedin, Fla., when the Orioles visit the Blue Jays.

Wieters is still scheduled to catch Chris Tillman in Saturday's game against the Puerto Rican development program rather than the Grapefruit League matchup with the Rays.

He is also set to play in Sunday's "B" game against the Pirates, which will last seven innings.

The 28-year-old backstop underwent Tommy John surgery last June and won't be the catcher in a Grapefruit League game until March 17.

Wieters is hitless in 20 at-bats with four strikeouts and a walk over six spring games. On Wednesday against the Blue Jays, he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

"We decided with him [that] with the at-bats yesterday, to take two days off to get his elbow [rest]," manager Buck Showalter said.
