A's set tentative roster for two-game trip to Las Vegas

MESA, Ariz. -- The A's have posted a tentative travel roster for their two-game, split-squad set against the Cubs in Las Vegas, beginning Friday.

Most of the team's regulars, including Billy Butler, Ben Zobrist and Brett Lawrie, will stay behind with bench coach Mike Aldrete, who will manage Cactus Leagues games against the Royals and Giants in the Valley of the Sun on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Manager Bob Melvin will travel to Vegas, bringing with him Craig Gentry, Stephen Vogt, Marcus Semien, Ike Davis, Mark Canha, Ryan Cook and Eric O'Flaherty, among others.

MLB rules require clubs to send at least four "regulars" to all Spring Training games.

The A's would typically have gone through a first round of roster cuts by now, especially since they have so many players (62) in camp, but Melvin said he's going to hold off on the trimming until they return from Vegas, following four games in two days.
