FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Following a three-day rest period due to "general soreness," right fielder Shane Victorino returned to the Red Sox's lineup on Tuesday and went 0-for-2 with a walk in a 5-1 win against the Rays.
"We had three at-bats planned for him today," said manager John Farrell. "He came out clean, fine, no issues."
The plan is for Victorino to skip Wednesday's trip to Tampa to play the Yankees, and then return on Thursday in Bradenton against the Pirates.
The Red Sox are excited to have Victorino healthy again after he missed much of last season due to back surgery and a variety of other ailments.
"I think for him being healthy, he brings tons of energy, brings a lot [from] the crowd," said righty Justin Masterson. "He's a great player."
