Players from Puerto Rico Development Program to play series of games at Spring Training complexes

A team comprised of players from the Puerto Rico Development Program will practice and play a series of games at various Spring Training complexes from March 12th-17th, Major League Baseball announced today. The team, which is comprised of 33 Puerto Rican high school players, will square off against the Canada Junior National Team, as well as Minor League squads from the Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays.

The team will hold a practice, which is open to the media, at 10:00 a.m. (ET) on Thursday, March 12th at Huggins-Stengel Field in St. Petersburg, Florida before facing the Canada Junior National Team on Friday, March 13th. The team will be led by former Major Leaguer catcher Raul Casanova, who played nine seasons in the Majors for the Detroit Tigers (1996-98), Milwaukee Brewers (2000-02), Orioles (2002), Chicago White Sox (2005), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2007) and New York Mets (2008). Three-time All-Star Jose Vidro, who played 12 seasons as a second baseman in the Majors for the Montreal Expos (1997-2004), Washington Nationals (2005-06) and Seattle Mariners (2007-08), will serve as the team's first base coach.
