Orioles sign righty Villanueva to Minor League deal

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- The Orioles signed right-handed pitcher Elih Villanueva to a Minor League contract on Friday, and he is expected to be at Triple-A.

Villanueva's signing, which was first reported by Baseball America, comes after a successful winter ball stint in which he led the Dominican League with 2.63 ERA in 11 games (10 starts). He struck out 46 over 54 2/3 innings.

Villanueva has one career Major League game, having started for the Marlins in 2011. In that game, he lasted three innings and allowed eight earned runs.
