GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Longtime Dodgers scout John Keenan, a prolific acquirer of talent, died Thursday.
Keenan, a Dodgers scout from 1962-98, had the distinction of signing a Hall of Famer, Don Sutton, as well as All-Stars Davey Lopes and Bill Russell. He also signed Cy Young Award winner Rick Sutcliffe.
"He was a quiet man. A nice man," said Lopes, the Dodgers' first-base coach. "He signed [Lopes and Russell] as outfielders."
Keenan also signed Mickey Hatcher, Tom Niedenfuer, Mitch Webster and Ted Power. He also served as the club's Midwest scouting supervisor.
