No hurry to recall Gordon from Omaha

CINCINNATI -- There's no rush to bring Alex Gordon back to the Royals from Triple-A Omaha.

Gordon, sent to Omaha to learn to play the outfield and sharpen up his batting stroke, was hitting .362 (51-for-141) prior to Sunday's game. He had 10 homers, nine doubles and 29 RBIs.

"I don't want to bring Alex up here right now if he's not going to play," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "And we've got enough outfielders with [Rick] Ankiel coming up, and that's going to create another player to put in the mix. To me, he's better off down there playing every day until something opens up."

Gordon is doing well in the outfield, switching from third base.

"He's doing great down there. Really taking to it, working hard and doing fine," Yost said.

Ankiel is with Omaha on an injury rehabilitation assignment, and his return date is uncertain, although it likely won't be during the upcoming three-game home series against the Houston Astros.
