Astros reach deal with supplemental pick

|
The Astros have reached a contract agreement with supplemental Draft pick Mike Kvasnicka, the team announced on Monday. Kvasnicka, a junior third baseman from the University of Minnesota, received a $936,000 signing bonus and was taken with the 33rd overall pick.

MLB.com first reported that a deal was in place over the weekend, but it was not made official until Monday. Along with Konvicka, the Astros also announced they had signed three other picks: catcher Roberto Pena (seventh round), outfielder Adam Bailey (23rd round) and shortstop Jacke Healey (27th round).

Kvasnicka, a switch-hitter, hit .355 with eight homers and 50 RBIs in 62 games this year for the Golden Gophers. He played catcher for Minnesota, but the Astros plan to move him to third base while letting him get occasional starts at catcher and in the outfield while in the Minor Leagues.

Mike Foltynewicz, a hard-throwing right-hander selected with the No. 19 overall pick, has agreed to a $1.3 million signing bonus, his advisor told MLB.com on Friday. No deal has been announced by the club. The Astros are still negotiating with their top pick, infielder Delino DeShields Jr., who was taken No. 8.
