O's announce starting assignments for Norris, Tillman

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Bud Norris and Chris Tillman have yet to start a Grapefruit League game, but it was announced after the Orioles' 5-4 loss to the Tigers that Norris will start on Saturday against the Red Sox and Tillman vs. the Phillies on Monday.

Manager Buck Showalter said the pair was slowed on purpose to start the spring.

"A couple more work days, 'cause of the extra load in October last year," Showalter said of the reasoning. Certain relievers like Darren O'Day and Zach Britton may have similar plans early on.

Steve Johnson is also taking another work day before he gets into a game. The Orioles are being cautious with the right-hander who came into camp off shoulder surgery and then jammed his middle finger during early fielding drills.

Infielder Paul Janish continues to progress well in his rehab and is hoping to throw this weekend. Janish, who had bone chips removed from his shoulder last month, took the field Tuesday for the first time, and is optimistic he can be an option to play in spring games around March 20.
