Moya has back spasms, to be re-evaluated

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Tigers No. 4-ranked prospect Steven Moya missed Tuesday's Grapefruit League-opening 15-2 win against the Orioles after suffering a back spasm, manager Brad Ausmus said. Moya will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Moya had a pinch-hit single and a walk in Monday's exhibition win over Florida Southern College. The 6-foot-7 slugger finished out the game in right field.

Moya isn't expected to win an Opening Day roster spot, but he might not be far behind if injuries force the Tigers to fill holes. The reigning Eastern League Most Valuable Player batted .276 with 35 home runs and 105 RBIs at Double-A Erie last year, earning a September callup.
