Castellanos hit by pitch, but X-rays negative

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Tigers have had six different players hit by pitches through the first two games this spring. Nick Castellanos is the only one so far to present a lingering concern.

Castellanos left Tuesday's Grapefruit League-opening 15-2 win over the Orioles in the second inning after a Ubaldo Jimenez pitch struck him on the left hand. X-rays were negative, and he left the clubhouse without any obvious limitation later.

Castellanos was on the lineup card as the starting third baseman for Wednesday's rematch against the Orioles in Sarasota, Fla. He could still play in that game, manager Brad Ausmus said, if the team's medical staff rules his hand OK.
