BRADENTON, Fla. -- Club president Frank Coonelly led a Pirates contingent including several players at a Saturday afternoon Miracle League Fantasy Camp for special-needs children at Manasota Field.
Co-presented with the Baltimore Orioles, their Sarasota-based Spring Training neighbors, Pirates Charities sponsored the event in partnership with Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids.
The camp offers special-needs kids the chance to get coaching from, and participate in activities with, professional coaches and players.
Pittsburgh third-base coach Rick Sofield and pitchers Charlie Morton, Tony Watson, Jared Hughes and Stolmy Pimentel held hitting, throwing and catching drills for the children, each of whom received Pirates jerseys personalized with their names on the back.
