Werth to start Spring Training in rehab mode

VIERA, Fla. -- The entire Nationals roster reported to camp Wednesday, according to manager Matt Williams. The team will have a full workout Thursday.

However, Williams announced that left fielder Jayson Werth (shoulder) would be in rehab mode to start Spring Training, outfielder Nate McLouth (shoulder) is taking part in a throwing program and center fielder Denard Span (hernia surgery) is at full strength.

Williams has a daily quote of the day for his players. Wednesday's was: "The road to the World Series begins today."

The Nationals are heavily favored to win the National League East title after acquiring right-hander Max Scherzer.

"Every Spring Training for every club there's optimism of course -- understanding that we have a lot of work to do and we have a long way to go," Williams said. "That being said, [we are] optimistic. They are itching to get out there."
