UNO completes sweep in Urban Invitational

Alcorn State also wins on final day of competition

Alcorn State University vs. Southern University -- Alcorn State 11, Southern 9

Southern was the only team at the Urban Invitational to lose all three games, but Sunday's contest was close and competitive for most of the day. Alcorn State led 7-6 after six innings and Devin Dukes gave the road team a bigger cushion with a three-run triple to the right-center gap in the seventh.

Phillip Williams singled three times, tripled and walked for Southern and made it a two-run game with his final hit in the ninth inning. Southern infielder Rivers Frederick, a New Orleans native and former Urban Youth Academy player, went 4-for-5 with four singles for the Jaguars in the loss.

Grambling State vs. University of New Orleans -- UNO 12, Grambling 4

The University of New Orleans swept all three games in the Urban Invitational and took control of Sunday's finale with a five-run sixth inning. Three players -- Jonathan Coco, Preston Marsh and Jay Robinson -- had multiple RBIs, and starting pitcher Jordan Priddle worked five efficient innings.

Second baseman Darien Brown had two hits and two RBIs for Grambling in the losing cause. Grambling beat rival Southern on Friday but allowed 27 runs in its final two games, both losses. All nine of UNO's starters had at least one hit Sunday, and eight of the nine starters scored at least one run.
