Grambling and New Orleans victorious at Urban Invitational

These rivals kicked off the Urban Invitational in New Orleans with five scoreless innings Friday afternoon. Grambling pulled away with a four-run rally in the sixth. Outfielder Edwin Drexler came up with two outs and the bases loaded, and he gave Grambling a 3-0 lead with a triple into the right-field corner.

Jaiden France added an RBI single and Drexler had another RBI hit. Southern's lone run came on an RBI double by catcher Marcus Hodge. Righty Andre Wilson worked seven innings for Grambling State and got the win, striking out seven batters and yielding six hits.

University of New Orleans 5, Alcorn State University 0

Home team University of New Orleans took control in the fifth inning, scoring five times to break open a scoreless game. Outfielder Ryan Calloway pushed two runs home with a double in the fifth, and another two runs scored as a result of a pair of errors by the Alcorn State outfield.

UNO right-hander Shawn Semple pitched into the seventh inning, not allowing a run and striking out 10 batters while allowing just one hit and one walk. Alcorn State made three errors behind starter Colton Laird and the Braves notched just three hits against UNO for the game.
