Cubs select Bryce Harper's older bro

MILWAUKEE -- If you've followed the 2010 First-Year Player Draft at all, you've heard about highly touted catcher Bryce Harper, who was the first pick overall on Monday by the Washington Nationals.

The Cubs got his brother.

In the 26th round on Tuesday, the Cubs selected Bryce's older brother, Bryan, a left-handed pitcher, who also was playing at the College of Southern Nevada. Bryan Harper was 10-1 with a 2.18 ERA in 15 games (10 starts). He struck out 88 over 57 2/3 innings.

While not the prospect his kid brother is, Bryan has done well. He's a tall, lanky lefty who can hit 92 mph and, according to scouting reports, has a good feel for his breaking ball and changeup. He did walk 25.

Bryan Harper was the second player the Cubs selected off the Coyotes' roster. In the 10th round, they picked Southern Nevada right-handed pitcher Aaron Kurcz. He was 3-3 with 10 saves and a 4.11 ERA in 24 games (one start). He struck out 52 in 35 innings. Opponents hit .225 against him.
