Rays Minor Leaguer suspended 80 games for PEDs

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced Friday that Rays outfielder Spencer Edwards has received an 80-game suspension without pay for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Edwards tested positive for Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone and metabolite, Methasterone and metabolite, and a metabolite of Tamoxifen, performance-enhancing substances in violation of the program.

The suspension of Edwards, who is currently on the roster of the Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods, will be effective at the start of the 2015 Midwest League season.

Edwards, 21, was a second-round selection in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and has a .210/.273/.285 line in three Minor League seasons.
