Dodgers tab Matos as Great Lakes manager

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers promoted coach Luis Matos to manage the Class A Great Lakes Loons in the latest move triggered by the resignation of Class A Rancho Cucamonga manager P.J. Forbes for personal reasons.

Matos takes over for Bill Haselman, who replaced Forbes at Rancho Cucamonga. The Dodgers have not named a coaching replacement for Matos.

Matos, who spent seven seasons in the Major Leagues with the Orioles and Nationals, most recently was a hitting coach in the Puerto Rican Winter League.

"It was a surprise, because this was going to be my first year coaching [in the U.S.]," Matos said in a news release. "But when they asked if I wanted to manage, how could I say no? It's a challenge, and I like that."
