Izturis receiving respect from fans

LOS ANGELES -- The voters have figured it out.

Cesar Izturis, the Gold Glove winner who was unranked in the first round of voting for National League All-Star shortstop, has shot to the lead at his position in the latest round of All-Star balloting.

Izturis took the lead from injured Chicago Cubs shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, who fell to third in the voting. St. Louis Cardinals shortstop David Eckstein is second, Atlanta's Rafael Furcal is fourth and Jose Reyes of the Mets is fifth.

Izturis ranks among league leaders in hits, multi-hit games and at-bats.

He joins teammate Jeff Kent on the leaderboard. Kent has been the leading vote-getter at second base throughout the voting this year. He is followed by Mark Grudzielanek of St. Louis, Craig Biggio of Houston, Todd Walker of the Cubs and Marcus Giles of the Braves.

Izturis would be making his first All-Star Game appearance. Kent is a four-time All-Star.

The only other Dodgers who rank significantly in All-Star voting are outfielders Milton Bradley and J.D. Drew. Bradley is seventh and Drew is 11th.

Voting at Dodger Stadium ended June 11.
