KANSAS CITY, MO (January 27, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder Jarrod Dyson for the 2015 season, avoiding arbitration. Consistent with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Dyson, 30, set a career-high with 36 stolen bases last season, batting .269 with four doubles, four triples, a homer and 33 runs scored during the regular season. His 36 steals tied for third in the American League, while his total was the highest by a Royal since Carlos Beltran swiped 41 bags during the 2003 season. The five-year veteran enters the 2015 season tied for ninth in club history with 120 career thefts, matching U.L. Washington's (1977-84) total.
The signing of Dyson leaves the Royals with six unsigned arbitration-eligible players: pitchers Danny Duffy, Kelvin Herrera and Greg Holland, first baseman Eric Hosmer, third baseman Mike Moustakas and outfielder Lorenzo Cain.
