In coordination with the National Hockey League and the Colorado Avalanche, the Colorado Rockies announced today that Coors Field will host a game between the Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings on February 27, 2016 as part of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.
"We're incredibly excited to host this extraordinary event for the great sports fans of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region," said Rockies Owner/Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Monfort. "We're also very excited to partner with the NHL, the Avalanche and MillerCoors for this event. We can't think of a better place to host a Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game than in the Mile High City in front of 50,000 fans at Coors Field."
The event will be the first NHL game to be played outdoors in Colorado sports history. The 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game also marks the first time the Avalanche will play an official NHL game outdoors in their franchise history.
The game is one of three outdoor games in 2016 the NHL announced today. The Boston Bruins will play host to the Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium on New Year's Day for the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. The Minnesota Wild will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Feb. 21, 2016 at TCF Bank Stadium, which is also a part of the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.
Additional information regarding the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series event at Coors Field, including ticketing, will be announced at a later date.
