Giants slugger Barry Bonds may be rehabbing his right knee, hoping for a return to action after the All-Star break, but fans nationwide still are eager to vote him into the 76th Midsummer Classic on July 12 at Detroit's Comerica Park.
The 40-year-old Bonds is rated 13th in National League outfield voting in figures released by Major League Baseball and is the lone Giant among balloting leaders.
Bonds, a 13-time All-Star, underwent surgeries on his left and right knees during the offseason and recently recovered from a serious bacterial infection.
Carlos Beltran of the Mets is the leading vote-getter among outfielders.
Other Giants on the ballot are outfielders Moises Alou and Marquis Grissom, second baseman Ray Durham, shortstop Omar Vizquel and third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo.
Alou got off to a slow start this season after a calf strain and an illness, but he's gotten hot recently. Alfonzo also has been hot, while Vizquel is playing spectacular defense with his new club.
Balloting at SBC Park concludes June 23.
