Third annual D-backs Race against Cancer set for May 2

The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to host the third annual D-backs Race Against Cancer on May 2.

The race, presented by the University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, will take place in the streets of downtown Phoenix and will conclude with a lap around the bases at Chase Field.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and will be distributed to non-profit organizations across the state that offer screening, treatment and support for those affected by cancer.

Those willing to participate in the event can either sign up for the 5K, which starts at 7:30 a.m. MT, or the 1-mile Banana Boat Family Fun Walk, which starts at 9 a.m. Both events start at Chase Field.

All participants receive a special D-backs racing shirt, unique medal and a ticket to a future home game.

Early registration, which concludes on April 25, is $40 for the 5K and $20 for the 1-mile.

After the early registration deadline, the prices increase to $50 for the 5K and $30 for the 1-mile.

If children 12 and under want to participate in the 1-mile race, registration is only $5.

The University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center was launched in 2011, and the group's new five-story building is set to open in downtown Phoenix in September.
