MIAMI - The Marlins today acquired right-handed prospects Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo from the Giants in exchange for third-baseman Casey McGehee. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Flores, 23, spent the 2014 season with Single-A San Jose, going 4-6 with a 4.09 ERA with 112 strikeouts and just 32 walks in 20 starts. The 6-foot-2 right-hander, who will go on the Marlins' 40-man roster, posted career bests in 2013 with Single-A Augusta in games started (22), wins (10), innings pitched (141.2) and strikeouts (137), while boasting a 2.73 ERA. Over his career, he is 31-24, 3.47 in 90 games (85 starts) with 443 strikeouts and 111 walks (two intentional) after signing with the Giants in 2009.
Castillo, 22, posted a 2-2 record with 10 saves in 12 opportunities and a 3.07 ERA in 48 games with Single-A Augusta last season, establishing career highs in wins, games, innings pitched (58.2) and strikeouts (66). In three Minor League seasons, the Dominican native has gone 3-6 with a 2.68 ERA in 94 games.
