Kottaras to join White Sox with Minor League deal

CHICAGO -- George Kottaras will join the White Sox via a Minor League deal with an invite to Spring Training, a Major League source confirmed to MLB.com. The club has not commented on the deal.

The left-handed-hitting catcher, who is 31, played for the Indians, Cardinals and Blue Jays in 2014, hitting .233 with three homers and five RBIs. Kottaras hit two homers in two at-bats for the Indians against Andre Rienzo on May 4 at Progressive Field during a 4-3 White Sox victory. He has played for seven teams over his seven-year career.

Kottaras joins Adrian Nieto and Rob Brantly in the competition for White Sox backup catcher behind starter Tyler Flowers.
