Rangers place QB Wilson on Triple-A roster

SAN DIEGO -- The Rangers do not want Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson to be taken in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft. That's why they have placed him on their Triple-A roster.

That means that if a club selects Wilson in the Rule 5 Draft, they would have to put him on their 40-man roster. That's highly unlikely since Wilson is committed to playing football.

But the Rangers did take him in the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft last year and brought him to Spring Training for a day to meet with their players. The Rangers would like to do that again next spring.

Wilson was originally drafted by the Rockies in 2010 as an infielder and played two seasons in their farm system before his football career took off.
