Barnes pitched in 22 games for the Indians in 2012-13, going 0-1 with a 5.20 ERA. He has held left-handed hitters to a .200 average at the Major League level.
Barnes relies on a fastball, changeup and slider. His fastball averages 90-91 mph. He was once considered a potential starter before being converted to relief. He has had to deal with a sprained left wrist that has hurt his development, and his 2014 season was cut short by a strained muscle in his left rib cage.
The Giants originally selected Barnes in the eighth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He was traded a year later to the Indians for first baseman Ryan Garko. The Indians traded Barnes to the Orioles in November before he was claimed off waivers by the Rangers.
