Bird, Mondesi among Fall Stars Game additions

The Arizona Fall League announced Wednesday that six players have been added to the rosters for Saturday's Fall Stars Game, including Scottsdale first baseman Greg Bird, the circuit's home run leader and Yankees' No. 11 prospect, and Peoria shortstop Raul Mondesi, the Royals' top prospect.

Joining Bird and Mondesi as late additions to the All-Star event are two Salt River players: outfielder Eddie Rosario, the Twins' No. 10 prospect, and third baseman Rio Ruiz, the Astros' No. 9 prospect. Surprise also had two additions to the game, as right-hander Ben Klimesh and outfielder Nick Williams, the Rangers' No. 4 prospect, join the West Roster.

Four players have been removed from the rosters, including Salt River center fielder Byron Buxton, baseball's top prospect. He saw his season come to an end Monday when he dislocated his left middle finger trying to catch a line drive.

Surprise center fielder Rusney Castillo, the Red Sox's latest Cuban free agent signing, also suffered a hand injury, ending his AFL season and prompting his removal from the All-Star Game. Surprise right-hander Tayron Guerrero, the Padres' No. 19 prospect, and Mesa first baseman Matt Olson, the A's No. 2 prospect, were also replaced on the Fall Stars Game rosters.

In all, 13 players ranked on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list will be in action. Fans can watch the game, which begins at 8 p.m. ET, on MLB Network and MLB.com.
