The highlight from the 2001 All-Star Game came before the first pitch was even thrown. Despite being elected the starting AL shortstop, Alex Rodriguez shifted over to third base to allow Cal Ripken Jr. to man his natural shortstop position in his 19th and final All-Star Game. Ripken went out in style, crushing a solo homer in his first at-bat to stake the AL to a 1-0 lead en route to winning MVP honors in a 4-1 victory.
