The American League topped the National League, 4-1, in 1999, but the game may have been an afterthought after factoring in all the other festivities that took place at Fenway Park. Prior to the Classic, the Red Sox honored Ted Williams and several other legends of the game. Stan Musial, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron were among those honored as part of the All-Century Team. Once the game began, Pedro Martinez, pitching in his home park, struck out the side in the first inning and finished his two scoreless innings with five punchouts.
