This All-Star Game marked the third time Wrigley Field hosted the Midsummer Classic, but the hometown fans weren't treated to a very strong performance from the National League. The AL's pitching dominated the evening as the NL mustered just two hits. Oakland's Bob Welch started the game with two scoreless innings, and A's teammate Dennis Eckersly finished the game off in the ninth.
