The National League got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, but it quickly evaporated as the American League's Bo Jackson and Wade Boggs went back-to-back with solo homers in the home half. Jackson earned MVP honors for his towering shot. The victory gave the AL its first back-to-back wins since 1957-58, and also marked the All-Star debut of the designated hitter, with Harold Baines starting at DH for the AL in Anaheim.
