This season's low-scoring affair at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium was decided on the bat of Terry Steinbach. Making his first All-Star Game appearance, the A's catcher homered in his first at-bat, a solo drive off Dwight Gooden, and drove in the winning run as the American League hung on for a 2-1 win. The AL was backed by some strong pitching performances, including three perfect frames to open the contest by Frank Viola and Roger Clemens.
