This year's contest marked the 50th anniversary of the All-Star Game, and it was hosted at Comiskey Park in Chicago, the site of the first game in 1933. A seven-run outburst in the third, sparked by a pair of homers from Jim Rice and Fred Lynn, gave the American League an early 9-1 lead. The Junior Circuit eventually won, 13-3, snapping the National League's 11-year winning streak.
