The American League's propensity to surrender late-innings runs once again dropped it to another loss to the National League, this time a 7-6 defeat. Up by one run going into the eighth, the AL bullpen allowed one run in the eighth and another in the ninth. Lee Mazzilli hit a home run in his first All-Star at-bat in the eighth, then walked in the ninth to force in the winning run.
