Thanks in part to Joe Morgan, who opened the game with a home run off Jim Palmer, the National League jumped out to an early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning. The NL tacked on three more runs over the next eight frames and held on for a 7-5 win. It marked the NL's sixth straight win.
