This contest had one of the most startling moments in All-Star Game history. In the 12th inning with the score tied at 4, Pete Rose barreled over catcher Ray Fosse at home plate to give the National League a 5-4 win. It marked a major comeback win for the NL, which scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
