Although both teams combined for five home runs in this game, it was the National League's starting pitcher, Juan Marichal, who walked away with Most Valuable Player honors. Marichal faced the minimum through three scoreless innings and allowed the NL to race out to a 5-0 lead after homers from Willie Mays, Joe Torre and Willie Stargel. Hometown favorite Harmon Killebrew also hit a home run in the first All-Star Game in Minnesota.
