The American League rallied from down, 3-1, in the ninth with an RBI single by Al Kaline, who would score later in the inning on an error to tie the game at 3. When the AL took a brief 4-3 lead in the 10th, it was the NL's turn to storm back. Willie Mays tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning, and two batters later, Roberto Clemente delivered the game-winning single to right field.
