Yankees manager Casey Stengel finally picked up his first All-Star Game victory in his fifth try as the AL rallied late to beat the NL, 11-9 in the second-highest-scoring Midsummer Classic of all time (trailing only the 1998 edition). Larry Doby tied the game for the AL in with a homer in the bottom of the eighth, and Nellie Fox's two-run single later in the frame proved to be the difference.
