With baseball players coming from all over the world to play in the Major Leagues, interpreters have become an essential part of most clubhouses. Usually, they're just there to facilitate communication -- but things can get a bit confusing when they're asked to talk about themselves.
During Shohei Ohtani's first press conference of Spring Training, he was asked how he picked his interpreter. The unusual result of which -- documented in the video above -- was that the interpreter had to praise himself in the third person.
Ohtani's answer -- that his interpreter was trustworthy and they had already worked together for a couple of years -- was proven accurate by both their reactions to the awkward and comical predicament they found themselves in: They shared a laugh, as good friends do.
