The ball dudes around MLB always put in a huge effort. From laying out in an attempt to stop a foul ball to leaping catches, they are the unsung heroes out on the field. It doesn't always work out the way they planned, however.
When the Giants were hosting the Dodgers on Wednesday night, the ball dude positioned along the first-base line attempted a play, but it wasn't successful.
Kelby Tomlinson was at the plate, against Yu Darvish in the bottom of the third, when he fouled a ball down the first-base line. The ball dude did his best to make the play, but couldn't quite square around it. When the ball got away from his reach, he ran after it, taking a tumble on the grass.
All is well though. He quickly popped up and ran the ball to the stands and gave the ball to a young fan who appreciated his new souvenir.
