When the Angels acquired Brandon Phillips before the end of August to help in the team's AL Wild Card chase, they weren't just boosting their Klout score with @DatDudeBP on the team. They were also adding some punch to the lineup and some smooth-as-silk defense at second base -- the latter of which was on display during Monday's 11-9 victory over the A's.
In the bottom of the seventh, Bruce Maxwell hit a sharp grounder up the middle. Phillips dove and made a nice backhand stop. He then flipped behind his back to start off the double play:
The best part? Phillips froze after making the flip with his arm extended behind him, in case there was anyone watching at home that wanted to study his form or perhaps build a to-scale model of the second baseman.
