Odubel Herrera homered on a pitch that was 0.73 feet off the ground -- the lowest in Statcast history

main image

Odubel Herrera was facing off against Julio Teheran in the fifth inning of Tuesday's Phillies-Braves game. Teheran had Herrera down 0-2 in the count and perfectly set up for a sweeping, throwaway curveball. He would throw it in the dirt on purpose -- probably thinking Herrera wouldn't swing, but if he did, he'd either miss it or foul-tip it off the backstop.

This ... was not what Teheran expected.

Yet, that's what the bat flip wunderkind did. According to Statcast, it was lowest pitch hit for a homer since 2015 -- just 0.73 feet off the ground. Lower than Charlie Blackmon's 0.84-foot dinger from earlier this season. Take a look for yourself.

Herrera

Thanks in part to Herrera's golf dinger, the Phils won the game, 5-2.
