Before we begin, a humble request: What went down in the top of the sixth inning of the D-backs' 12-0 win over the Rangers on Tuesday was so spectacularly, wonderfully strange, it can only be fully appreciated if set to the Benny Hill theme.
Now that we're all in the proper frame of mind, here we go. Texas catcher Jose Trevino lifted a routine fly ball to left field. But then, as is wont to happen in afternoon games in Arizona, the sun got in the way: At the last minute, D-backs left fielder Kristopher Negron lost sight of the ball, and it fell in for a hit.
Ah, but that's just the beginning of the madness. Texas center fielder Cesar Puello, the runner on second, understandably jogged back to the bag when it appeared to be an ordinary putout. Once the ball dropped, he put his head down and started hustling for third ... without realizing that there was an umpire directly in front of him:
By the time Puello regained his footing, he was caught in a pickle and promptly tagged out. Let us cherish these Spring Training moments while we have them.
