Anthony was named the Cubs major league hitting coach in October, 2018 after three seasons as the hitting coach with the Texas Rangers ... prior to joining Texas, he spent the previous three years in the Cubs organization as a Special Assistant to the GM while overseeing the club's minor league hitting program from 2013-15 ... Has been in a coaching/player development capacity since the 2006 season, including three seasons as a major league hitting coach ... Graduated from McClancy High School in his native Queens, N.Y. ... played college baseball at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.


Anthony served as the Rangers hitting coach from 2016-18, marking his first stint as a coach at the major league level ... During his three seasons with Texas, the Rangers ranked fifth in the American League in runs and fourth in home runs ... the 2017 Rangers became the first team in big league history to see nine players reach 17 homers in the same season ... Served as a roving hitting coordinator with Toronto from 2010-12 ... Was a hitting coach in the Marlins system with Short-A Jamestown (2006), Single-A Greensboro (2007) and Single-A Jupiter (2008-09).


A former outfielder, Anthony played 11 seasons in the minor leagues in the Brewers and Marlins organizations, as well as independent ball, after being selected by Milwaukee in the 33rd round of the 1994 Draft ... Reached the Triple-A level four different times and was a career .272 hitter with a .345 on-base percentage in 714 minor league games.
